Ampedrin Review Summary

Ampedrin is a more focused nootropic stack than Nutratech’s other offering; Neutropix. Ampedrin has the same number of ingredients as Neutropix, and roughly the same size formula (there’s 2mg between them). Yet Ampedrin clearly has fewer ‘fillers’ and more powerful ingredients.

Yet that does not mean that it is good compared to most other natural nootropic stacks. All things considered, we would not recommend Ampedrin to anyone desiring a significant, predictable, and reliable boost in cognitive performance.

Ampedrin uses a proprietary blend, which means we have no idea how the ingredients are dosed. Many of the best ingredients in Ampedrin are highly dose sensitive; at low doses they do nothing, at high doses they cause side effects. Since the blend size is still too small to allow for all the best ingredients to be dosed properly, we’re forced to give this formula a low score.

Where To Buy Ampedrin

As always, when there is the option to buy directly from the manufacturer, we urge you to take that rather than going to third party merchants. Nutratech have a comprehensive online store; check that out if you really do want to buy Ampedrin.

Full Ampedrin Review

Ampedrin is a nootropic stack made by Nutratech, makers of the well known brain supplement Neutropix, which we have already reviewed on this site.

While we weren’t too impressed with Neutropix, there’s every possibility that Ampedrin will be much better. We thought it was only fair to give Nutratech’s other nootropic a chance, so we compiled this detailed Ampedrin review.

After all, whereas Neutropix promised to be a “stimulant-free neuro booster”, Ampedrin promises are a little more specific. The bottle tells us that Ampedrin offers “enhanced energy and mental cognition”.

Both products do speak of offering the same general nootropic benefits: “memory, concentration, focus, alertness, reduce brain fog and support general mental function and health long term”. Yet it is still clear that Ampedrin is designed to deliver a boost in mental energy, whereas Neutropix is not.

Nutratech Ampedrin Review

So what else does Ampedrin claim to do?

According to Nutratech, Ampedrin gives you many of the same benefits as most other nootropic stacks on the market.

We are told that Ampedrin nootropic can “produce immediate benefits to various important mental functions such as memory, concentration, focus, attention and stamina.”

Going further, Nutratech claim that “Ampedrin’s comprehensive and high quality formula offers men and woman an effective, maintainable and safe daily natural supplement to help meet the demands of this new age reality… offering a measurable edge to students, workers and people in all areas of today’s fast paced world while preventing mental depletion and burnout.”

You can’t really ask for much more from a natural nootropic supplement.

So the question remaining is, does it actually do any of this?

Are Nutratech just talking a good game here, or does Ampedrin actually help improve memory and focus? Can Ampedrin really increase mental energy? Is it safe? What are the likely side effects?

Perhaps most important of all, is it worth the nearly $40 price tag?

Let’s find out together. Here is our full Ampedrin review. As you’ll see, we spend most of our time discussing the formula, as we believe this should be the focus of every nootropic supplement review.

If you have any lingering questions at the end of the review, let us know in the comments section.

Ampedrin Formula

Let’s take a look at the Ampedrin formula and see if this formula really has what it takes to deliver everything that the manufacturers say it can.

Here is a shot of the formula, as shown on the ingredients list:

Ampedrin Formula Review

As you can see, Nutratech have again used a gelatin capsule, meaning that Ampedrin isn’t suitable for vegetarians. This probably annoys us more than it should, but there really is no need for this nowadays. Vegetable cellulose capsules aren’t expensive. Many manufacturers go the extra mile to maximize their potential customer base. Nutratech should do the same.

The main thing about the Ampedrin formula that will jump out at you is the fact that it is listed as a single proprietary blend.

We are very much against proprietary blends on this site.

They rob customers of the ability to make an informed, rational buying decision. The efficacy of almost all natural nootropic substances is dose-dependent. Since customers have no individual ingredient dosing information, they know nothing of the likely effects of the formula as a whole.

Potential customers are therefore apparently expected to rely on the promises of the manufacturer, the snazzy advertising, and so on. This doesn’t usually reflect a great deal of confidence in either the product or the customers.

So why do manufacturers use proprietary blends?

Many of them claim it is to protect their product.

Now, whether or not they are lying or just mistaken is not for us to decide. But it is a fact that plenty of manufacturers tell us what is in their supplements, down to the microgram, and they have no trouble making money hand over fist.

That others find that impossible either speaks of their incompetence or the poor quality of their product.

This brings us nicely onto the other reason why manufacturers use proprietary blends: their product is garbage.

Many manufacturers (and we are not suggesting that Nutratech is one necessarily) will use a proprietary blend to disguise how cheap their product should actually be.

So they will use very small amounts of the most expensive ingredients, stuffing the bulk of the formula with cheaper, less effective ‘filler’ ingredients. They can then still list the expensive ingredients on the label, and nobody is able to tell that they are present in ridiculously small quantities.

The manufacturer appears to have an amazing supplement, but they avoided actually having to pay for one. They win, the customer loses.

Again, we aren’t saying that Nutratech are doing this here necessarily, but it is worth bearing in mind whenever you come across a proprietary blend.

Ampedrin Ingredients Review – Benefits & Side Effects

While there are fundamental flaws with all proprietary blends, not all proprietary blends are equal. Some are much worse than others.

So, it is worth looking at the ingredients in Ampedrin to see how this formula compares to other blends.

Caffeine is a natural nootropic we are all familiar with; most of us use it for its nootropic properties already, usually on a daily basis. It is a frankly incredible substance; predictable, well-tolerated, cheap, and effective.

Caffeine rapidly, almost instantly raises mental energy levels, boosts motivation, enhances focus, and reduces the perception of fatigue. If the dosing is sensible, it can also reduce stress.

That said, caffeine’s effects are highly sensitive to dose size. At a reasonable serving size, caffeine can significantly improve cognitive function in the short-term. Too much caffeine can absolutely ruin your focus, produce feelings of anxiety, irritability, and an inability to concentrate. If the dose is very large, you will suffer from the ‘jitters’, an elevated heart rate, insomnia, and headaches.

We don’t know how much caffeine is in Ampedrin, so we have no idea whether caffeine will do nothing, cause severe side effects, or work very well.

DMAE is a cholinergic.

It is taken to boost choline levels in the brain, which in turn can help raise acetylcholine availability.

Acetylcholine is the main neurotransmitter used in the parts of the brain responsible for learning, memory, focus, and concentration (along with muscle contraction). Without acetylcholine, the brain cells involved in these cognitive functions couldn’t communicate with one another properly. Your cognitive function would decline rapidly.

So boosting acetylcholine availability is a good way to go about enhancing mental performance.

The problem? DMAE is nowhere near as effective or as reliable as other cholinergics, and it also seems to be more likely to elicit side effects.

And again, DMAE’s effectiveness and its safety are contingent on the serving size in question. Too much, and rather unpleasant side effects are almost certain. Too little, and you’ll get no benefit whatsoever.

So how much is in Ampedrin? Your guess is as good as ours.

-Boosting Creativity Naturally-

CDP-Choline is one of our favorite natural nootropic substances. Were we designing our own stack, we would always include CDP-Choline.

Unlike DMAE, CDP-Choline is an amazingly efficient, powerful cholinergic. It rarely produces side effects, it reliably boosts acetylcholine availability, and it has a range of peripheral benefits (such as conferring uridine).

Two things to note here. First of all, why are both CDP-Choline and DMAE included int he formula? Just pick the best cholinergic, and dose it properly. A half dose of CDP-Choline and a half dose of DMAE does not add up to one proper cholinergic dose.

Second of all, we really need to know how much CDP-Choline we are dealing with.

While side effects from CDP-Choline use are rare, it is possible to experience headaches, nausea, and brain fog when using too much.

Theanine is another good addition to a stack; particularly one that contains caffeine.

Theanine works to amplify the good effects of caffeine while assuaging the bad effects.

But it can only do so much. We have no idea how much caffeine or theanine is in this supplement, so we can’t say whether it is likely to have any significant effect.

Beta-PEA is just an exotic way of saying phenylethylamine. This stuff is known as a trace amine, and it is known to interact with the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin. It therefore has an influence on motivation, mental stamina and learning, not to mention mood and stress regulation.

Schizandrol is a new ingredient for us, but it looks quite interesting.

From the limited scientific data we could find, it seems effective at reducing stress and anxiety. However, once again, dosage is key. More research needs to be done here, and without a lot of empirical data attesting to its safety, side effects are a concern (especially since we don’t know exact dosing).

As for hordenine, we can’t see any good reason to have this in a natural nootropic stack.

Hordenine is a stimulant sometimes thought to aid fat oxidation, which is why it is often found in weight loss supplements. Perhaps Nutratech had some left over from one of their fat loss supplements and decided to use it up in this nootropic stack.

Ampedrin Review Conclusion

All things considered, this is a really disappointing, uninspiring stack. We started this Ampedrin review with high hopes, but unfortunately Nutratech don’t seem to have delivered on their promises with this one.

The proprietary blend makes it difficult to talk with any certainty about likely benefits of using Ampedrin. It does contain some great ingredients, but how they are dosed is absolutely crucial.

With a total blend size of under 800mg, we highly doubt that all of the best ingredients have been dosed how we would like them to be.

Of course, that is speculation, but we shouldn’t be forced to speculate; manufacturers should divulge their formulas in their entirety, as so many supplement producers are able to do.

The ingredient selection could be better, and some of the ingredients have no place in a modern, top-quality natural nootropic stack.

If you’re looking for a reliable, effective, and safe memory and focus supplement, look elsewhere.
