KogniZen Review Summary

We were very impressed with KogniZen. It provides very large doses of some of the best natural nootropics around. The doses of Rhodiola rosea and Ginkgo biloba, for example, are larger than you will get from pretty much any other product on the market right now. We also get a large but sensible serving of caffeine, and a much larger dose of theanine to help take the edge off any side effects (although some side effects are still likely). The purity of the ingredients is excellent. On the whole, this is a very good nootropic.

On the other hand, we do have some dead weight in here. Panax Ginseng doesn’t really do anything for cognitive function. Ashwagandha isn’t needed because of the large dose of Rhodiola rosea. Perhaps the biggest flaw is the lack of any cholinergic. A big dose of choline is more important to us than caffeine, which we can get from tea and coffee anyway! KogniZen could be much better, but it could also be a hell of a lot worse! Well worth a try if you like stacks with caffeine.

Where To Buy KogniZen

We recommend buying this stuff directly from the KogniZen website.

Full KogniZen Review

KogniZen is a brand new product from MX Nutraceuticals. This is a UK based company. We all know that the UK has a reputation for producing high quality nootropics; a large proportion of our top 10 products are from there, and every time a new one is released, we are usually pretty impressed. So we have high hopes for this latest release.

What does KogniZen claim to do?

Who is it designed to help exactly?

According to the official website, KogniZen is a full-spectrum natural nootropic stack.

It is described as an “advanced natural formula”.

It claims to cover pretty much the full range of cognitive functions that we know to be affected by nootropic supplementation: focus, energy, memory, and mood.

This is how the makers of KogniZen see the stack working:

Manufacturer claims

The only thing that isn’t mentioned here that other stacks do claim to support is long-term brain adaptation. Some supplements will deliver immediate improvements in focus, memory function, and mood, while ALSO supporting physical brain developments.

Stacks sometimes utilize substances which promote neurotrophic factor release.

Or to put that another way, some nootropics use things like Lion’s Mane Mushroom and magnesium to stimulate the release of select proteins. These proteins boost neuron growth, strengthen nerve cell myelin sheaths, and more.

Kognizen makes no mention of this.

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad nootropic; it just means it doesn’t do everything that the most comprehensive nootropic stacks can do today.

It does claim to do an awful lot though.

Any stack which can boost concentration, memory function and mood is a pretty impressive stack as far as we’re concerned.

The question is, how much of this is true and how much is just empty words?

Does KogniZen really work as advertised?

Is it safe? What are the side effect risks like?

How does it compare to similar products on the market today? Is there a more effective or economical option out there?

Find out by reading our full KogniZen review below. We look at the formula in much greater detail, before taking a closer look at the potential health risks. If you finish the review and you have any questions whatsoever, please post them in the comments section at the end. We’ll try to get back to you within 24 hours.

KogniZen Formula Analysis

Let’s take a closer look at what’s actually in KogniZen. Here is the ingredients list:

Ingredients list

That is a unique, interesting, potent formula.

We see some top quality nootropics in here.

The doses look excellent in key places; in some cases, the doses are well above what you will get from practically every other brain supplement on the market today!

The ingredients cover multiple different aspects of cognitive function.

There’s also a very good caffeine and theanine stack in KogniZen; too few people get the 2:1 theanine to caffeine ratio right.

There are also some things which we would change, of course.

There’s no cholinergic, for one.

There’s nothing to promote long-term neuron growth.

We don’t like stacks that contain caffeine – we don’t think they’re suitable for everyone, and certainly not for long-term, every day use.

It also contains some ingredients that offer no added benefits. We hate dead weight, especially when the formula is fine without said ingredient.

All in all, this is a potent formula. The price tag is justifiable, no doubt about that. While it could be a lot better, we don’t see any reason for people not to give this product a try (apart from some side effect considerations, which we’ll come to later).

What We Like

  • Excellent serving sizes in key areas
  • Extract quality is superb

There are some serious strengths to this formula. In some ways, it is significantly better than most other stacks on the market right now.

One area in which it beats the competition is serving sizes; KogniZen provides far larger servings of some key ingredients than 99% of nootropics on the market today.

For example, each 3-capsules serving gives us 435mg of Rhodiola rosea.

Rhodiola rosea is easily one of the most effective natural stress and anxiety-reducing substances available. Multiple scientific studies have shown that rhodiola rosea supplementation is able to quickly and significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety.

Rhodiola rosea seems to be particularly effective at supporting cognitive function during times of peak stress. When we’re under immense pressure, our focus, memory, and decision making abilities can often fall to pieces. Rhodiola rosea supplementation can help keep you calm, sharp, and mentally on top of your game when you need to be most.

The 435mg we get from each serving is more than we need to really get the full range of potential benefits from Rhodiola rosea.

Even top quality nootropics will typically use no more than 200mg of the stuff, as clinical trials have shown this amount to produce excellent results. But with a very good side effect profile, rhodiola rosea makes a perfect candidate for a substance which can be dosed excessively.

Rhodiola rosea and Tyrosine make for an incredibly effective combo when it comes to enhancing cognitive performance during times of acute stress and anxiety.

Rhodiola rosea plant

The quality of the extracts used in this stack is also something worth mentioning.

Many brain supplements list the names of the ingredients used and nothing more. This isn’t good enough, as most of the time we aren’t interested in the plant, but in a specific compound the plant provides.

We therefore need to know how much of this compound we’re getting to properly judge how effective the ingredient is going to be.

Not only does KogniZen give us this information, but we like what we’re told!

The Ginkgo Biloba in KogniZen, for example, is 24% glycosides and 6% terpenes.

These are the substances in Ginkgo Biloba that make the herb a nootropic; they do the work, not the other plant material. We therefore want these numbers to be as high as possible – the overall dose is irrelevant unless it means we get more glycosides and terpenes.

This is a very good quality extract, and the serving size is excellent too!

This will mean better cerebral circulation, better brain cell health, and enhanced cognitive performance going forward.

What We Don’t Like

  • Panax Ginseng not a nootropic
  • Caffeine unsuitable for daily supplementation
  • No cholinergic!

Despite the generous serving sizes and the quality of the extracts used, we think there are several ways in which this formula could be improved.

Its main weakness, as far as we’re concerned, is the lack of a cholinergic.

Every full spectrum natural nootropic needs to provide some kind of choline source if it wants to be competitive in today’s market.

Cholinergics confer choline to the brain, where it is turned into acetylcholine.

Acetylcholine is one of the most important neurotransmitters in the human brain. It is involved in multiple different cognitive functions: information processing, working memory, focus, even muscle contraction.

Raising acetylcholine levels is one of the most reliable ways to improve focus, learning speed and working memory function in the short term. That is why most nootropic supplements today include ingredients like Citicoline, Alpha-GPC or Choline Bitartrate.

KogniZen doesn’t contain any ingredients which promote acetylcholine levels in the brain. That is a serious limitation in our opinion.

Panax Ginseng root

Another serious problem is the use of Panax Ginseng.

As far as we know, there is absolutely no evidence that this stuff has nootropic properties of any kind.

It is not normally consumed for its ability to improve cognitive function. It is often used in sports supplements, but this is because it’s thought to improve hormone balance. We don’t know how accurate that claim is, but it doesn’t concern us here.

We aren’t aware of any independent, robust clinical trials showing that panax ginseng supplementation improves any facet of mental performance.

Until we do, we’re going to assume that it is totally useless.

We strongly dislike paying for ingredients that don’t provide us with any added benefits. For one thing, we like to keep costs down whenever possible. For another, we don’t like taking excessive amounts of herbal extracts every day. If it doesn’t improve performance, we don’t want to be consuming it any more than we have to.

There is no need for Panax Ginseng to be in this stack. It would be significantly better without it.

Our final concern regards side effects. We’ll deal with that in a separate section…

KogniZen Side Effects – Is It Safe?

There is nothing untoward about KogniZen.

It doesn’t use any synthetic brain drugs, nor does it use any obscure stimulants.

However, it is likely to cause some mild side effects in most users, and a small number of users will find that it causes quite noticeable side effects.

We also don’t think this stack is suitable for long-term regular use.

This is all because of the large caffeine dose we get from every serving of KogniZen.

Each serving of this nootropic provides 150mg of caffeine.

150mg is about the same amount of caffeine as you get from a double shot of espresso (varying with strength and type of coffee, of course).

Now, for some of you, that really wont sound like a lot.

But realistically, consuming that much caffeine in a single hit will cause some side effects for the vast majority of users. Even seasoned coffee addicts get some dizziness or jitters if they chug a double espresso first thing in the morning.

Some of the most common side effects of consuming this amount of caffeine include:

  • Hypertension
  • Light headedness
  • Jitters
  • Sweating
  • Dizziness
  • Anxiety
  • Irritability

Consuming too much caffeine over the long term can cause much more serious side effects, such as chronic insomnia or low energy levels.

Caffeine is habit forming.

It can also be fatal if overdose is acute.

Caffeine structure

The problem is lessened somewhat by the inclusion of theanine. At a 2:1 ratio, theanine suppresses the side effects of caffeine while accentuating its positive effects. While it doesn’t remove all side effects, it does attenuate the worst ones.

This problem can be made worse if you are already a habitual tea and coffee drinker. You may not get side effects from the 3 cups of fresh coffee you drink throughout the morning, but that will probably change if you start adding in purified caffeine from supplements.

That is why you MUST calculate how much caffeine you’re drinking already each day before you decide to add any more in through supplements.

It can quickly add up, and caffeine is not a weak stimulant!

Disclaimer

It is vital that you consider the following two facts while reading our reviews:

  1. We are not doctors
  2. This isn’t medical advice
  3. We don’t know your medical history or pre-existing conditions

We cannot give specific advice to every potential user. All we can do is highlight the most obvious dangers to most users, assuming no pre-existing conditions that make the ingredients particularly dangerous.

You MUST do your own research before buying any supplements reviewed on this site. You should always get information from multiple sources before making any decisions. It is also imperative tat you talk to a qualified doctor before you start using natural nootropics, even if they look safe to us. Just because something is safe for 99% of people doesn’t mean it’s safe for you!

KogniZen Review Conclusion – Worth A Try?

Absolutely!

Assuming you have no reason to avoid supplementing with caffeine, then this is probably worth a trial run.

We don’t think it is suitable for long-term, regular use. That is perhaps its major flaw – it doesn’t look like a very good daily nootropic, mostly due to the caffeine content.

We just don’t think it’s good to take a caffeine supplement every single day!

But for infrequent use, it looks like a top quality stack.

The ingredients are excellent by and large, and the extract quality used here is superb in all the right places.

KogniZen will promote cognitive function during times of peak stress.

It will promote better cerebral circulation.

It will increase mental energy, memory function, and focus.

But can other stacks do these things better?

We think the answer is yes.

There are undoubtedly worse stacks than KogniZen on the market today.

But we think there are also much better, more comprehensive, and ultimately more effective brain supplements out there too.
