EVLUTION NUTRITION Focus Mode Review – Very Overpriced!

Focus Mode Review Summary

Focus Mode is a very popular natural nootropic supplement in large part because it is made by EVLUTION NUTRITION. These guys are huge players in the bodybuilding supplement world. They are at the point where anything they make will sell quite well. That’s because they make good, dependable products and their prices are fair.

However, we can’t say that we were particularly impressed with Focus Mode. While it does contain some very good ingredients, there’s more good here than bad. All-in-all, it’s a very overpriced, under-powered nootropic.

There is no reason to use guarana rather than caffeine. There is at least one totally useless ingredient in the formula. To top it off, the Huperzine A content means that constant cycling is required. All of this adds up to a distinctly average supplement.

Where To Buy Focus Mode

Focus Mode is available from the EVLUTION NUTRITION online store. We recommend buying directly from the manufacturer for security reasons. You might also find multi-buy deals when purchasing straight from the source!

Full Focus Mode Review

Focus Mode is, to our knowledge, the only stand-alone nootropic supplement offered by EVLUTION NUTRITION.

These guys are absolute giants of the bodybuilding supplement industry. They are a well-known, highly respected brand. Their products are used around the world, and they are very popular. Usually, if they bring a product to market, it’s going to do fairly well.

It isn’t surprising to see these guys bringing out a nootropic. All athletes could use a lift in focus and alertness, and many could do with improvements in reaction time and memory function.

Focus Mode Review

So what is Focus Mode? What does it do?

According to the manufacturers, Focus Mode delivers the following key nootropic benefits:

  • Rapidly increased focus
  • Energy boost
  • Improvement in mood
  • Greater alertness
  • Enhanced athletic performance

These are all the exact things we would look for in a product like Focus Mode.

EVLUTION NUTRITION are not nootropics manufacturers. Their customers are bodybuilders, athletes, and so on. As such, we did expect to see more of a focus on energy and alertness than long-term memory enhancement.

But does Focus Mode really do any of this?

Can EVLUTION NUTRITION deliver on their promises?

Does it boost energy in a safe, sustainable manner?

What are the side effects going to be?

Is it worth the premium price tag? Or is there something out there that will give you the same benefits for a much lower price?

Let’s find out together. Here is our full Focus Mode review. We’ll look at the formula, the doses being used, and the safety of Focus Mode. We’ll then look at what other people have been saying about this natural nootropic supplement. Finally, we’ll tell you if this really is the supplement you’ve been looking for.

As always, post any questions you might have to the comments section below.

Focus Mode Formula

Here is the Focus Mode formula, as it should look on any bottle you purchase:

Focus Mode Formula

As you can see, this product is not suitable for vegetarians as it is made with a gelatin capsule. Vegetarians and vegans will make up a small proportion of EVLUTION NUTRITION’s customer base, but we still like to see manufacturers going the extra mile to include everyone. After all, gelatin is not a better encapsulating agent than cellulose; it is just cheaper.

This is quite an interesting formula.

There are things we like, and things we don’t like about it.

We’ll split this up into two sections so it’s easier for you to see where we’re coming from.

Overall though, we don’t think this is a particularly impressive formula.

It has many merits, and we’ve seen a lot worse, but this is far from the best.

Let us explain in more detail.

What We Like

For starters, it’s great to see such a powerful cholinergic used in this supplement.

Every serving of Focus Mode provides 200mg of Alpha-GPC powder.

Alpha-GPC is one of the best cholinergics there is. The only other substance that matches Alpha-GPC is CDP-Choline, or Cognizin as it is sometimes called when the branded version is used.

These substances (called cholinergics) confer choline to the brain. This raises acetylcholine availability, which in turn allows the brain to function much more efficiently.

We explain this in great detail in this article, which we strongly advise you to check out.

The only problem here is that the Alpha-GPC powder used in Focus Mode is only 50% Alpha-GPC. SO instead of 200mg of the ‘good stuff’ per serving, we get 100mg.

This is still good as it is such a powerful ingredient. But we would like to see either the dosage upped or a more powerful, concentrated powder used.

Focus Mode ingredients Alpha-GPC

The amount of theanine used in Focus Mode is great.

Theanine works with caffeine, bringing out its good effects while stiffling its negative effects.

So you get more focus and mental energy from the caffeine you consume, but less anxiety, fewer jitters, and no more feeling lightheaded.

200mg of theanine is usually enough for people who drink a reasonable amount of tea and coffee per day (our definition of reasonable might be a bit more generous than yours).

We really like seeing a good amount of phosphatidylserine used in Focus Mode.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a fat-like substance that constitutes a very large portion of your cell membranes.

Without PS, your brain cells simply couldn’t maintain and proliferate efficiently.

We all usually consume plenty through our diet, but supplementing with PS is wise if you really want to optimize brain function.

We think that 100mg of high quality PS per day is enough to support long-term cognitive enhancement and brain health.

What We Don’t Like

We’re never happy to see Guarana Seed Extract listed in the ingredients of any supplement. We certainly never want to see it in a premium natural nootropic.

Manufacturers utilize guarana for its caffeine content. We assume that is what the “extract” is extracted for here.

Contrary to popular belief, there’s nothing special about the caffeine in guarana. Caffeine is caffeine, regardless of where it comes from.

Guarana seeds contain more caffeine on a gram-for-gram basis than coffee beans or tea leaves.

But once extracted, it’s all the same stuff.

We have no idea how much caffeine we get per serving this way. It could be 300mg, which would be far too much for almost all users. It could be 3mg, which wont have any effect at all.

We wish the manufacturer would just use pure caffeine, or tell us how much caffeine to expect from each serving of Focus Mode. It is not our fault that we are reduced to speculation.

Focus Mode ingredients Guarana Seed Extract

To our knowledge, Mucuna Puriens has absolutely no nootropic properties whatsoever.

We have never seen any independent evidence that it has properties beneficial to cognitive or physical performance.

Some studies have looked at its potential as a source of L-DOPA, a precusor to dopamine. However, these studies have found it unreliable at best. Oral supplementation of L-DOPA doesn’t seem to promote dopamine at all in healthy individuals (ref).

Anyone claiming that Mucuna Puriens can boost dopamine levels is just speculating.

It doesn’t even seem to be good for your overall health and well-being.

A totally pointless inclusion in our minds.

Tyrosine is an amino acid which, like Mucuna Puriens, is thought to help raise both dopamine and noradrenaline levels.

Unlike Mucuna Puriens, Tyrosine actually works in this manner.

This means it can help with motivation, as well as mental performance under acute stress.

However, consuming 200mg of Tyrosine per day, even in the form of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine, is not going to do anything.

The minimum recommended daily dose of Tyrosine for the purposes of enhancing cognition is 500mg. If used as an acute booster for performance right before the activity in question, as much as 2g is regularly used.

The 200mg in Focus Mode is not going to make a difference to your cognitive function. This is much less than you would get from a generic, own-brand Tyrosine supplement. Not great from a supposedly premium stack.

Focus Mode Side Effects

No Focus Mode review is complete without a serious consideration of the side effects risks.

There are two substances in Focus Mode that have considerable side effect risks.

Obviously, the biggest offender here is the Guarana Extract.

We are sure that this means Focus Mode contains caffeine.

But since we just get a whole plant extract serving size, we have absolutely no idea how much caffeine we are getting from each serving of Focus Mode.

Focus Mode could feasibly provide as much as 300mg of caffeine per serving (if the substance extracted from the guarana seed is caffeine and the extract is very pure).

It could provide 3mg if the extract is very weak.

The issue here is that we just don’t know. The manufacturer has reduced us to guess work by withholding the information from us.

When it comes down to your safety, comfort, and long-term health, we want certainty, not guess-work.

The other major side effect concern is the Huperzine A.

We have written a great deal about Huperzine A, its uses and its downsides in great detail. Read this article if you are interested in learning more about this fascinating, powerful and problematic nootropic.

For those of you that don’t have time to read the full article, we’ll simply say that this substance can cause serious side effects if it is not cycled properly.

If regular breaks are not taken, then acetylcholine will build up in the brain. While we do want to raise acetylcholine generally speaking, excessive levels will cause headaches, irritability, impaired cognitive function, and more.

Huperzine A needs to be used with great care, especially as the ideal dosage to use and the ideal cycle length are not know.

We usually advise people to use for about 3-4 weeks before taking a full week break and adjusting from there accordingly depending on how you found the cycle. Some will need more, few will get away with less.

We are not qualified medical professionals on this site; we are simply nootropics enthusiasts sharing our experiences. It is important that you talk to your regular doctor before using a product like Focus Mode. It contains unusual substances and an unknown amount of caffeine. Do not gamble with your health, talk to a doctor before proceeding!

Focus Mode Review Conclusion

All things considered, we think Focus Mode is a pretty over-priced supplement.

If you have read our complete Focus Mode review, then you’ll know that this nootropic has its merits.

It contains a fairly good serving of one of the best nootropic substances there is. It contains a good serving of theanine and phosphatidylserine; not ‘main’ ingredients but vital inclusions nonetheless.

However, the negatives far outweigh the positives here.

There are useless ingredients, we could have a lot more Alpha-GPC than we do, and some ingredients are dosed so low that they are pointless.

The biggest porblem is that we don’t know how much caffeine we get in each serving.

It could be over 300mg, which is far too much, or it could just as eaily be 3mg, which is far too little.

We hate it when manufacturers withhold information from us, forcing us to speculate like this. Other manufacturers tell us everything, so we hold everyone to that standard.

If you’re looking for a powerful, reliable, cost-effective nootropic that delivers real results, we don’t think Focus Mode is really what you are looking for.

If you want professional brain enhancement, then check out some genuinely professional-level nootropics on our top rated list.
